Two local sisters developed Charleston’s first Hemp derived THC brand.
Natives of the Main Line of Philadelphia, Cara Applegate and Megan Lawson
both moved to Charleston 30 years ago to attend the College of Charleston. Like many do,
they fell in love with the city and chose to begin their career paths in finance and then raise their families here.
Cara and Megan had an awakening to create a hemp brand as a plant-based alternative to healing, Both are focussed on fitness, mental well-being and eating plant-based. The offerings had to be organic, high quality and small batch for consistency.
Apothecary is Charleston’s only locally-owned hemp brand and boasts a vast
product line including edibles, pens, pre-rolls, seltzers, and skin care.
Under the 2018 Farm Bill, all are legal in South Carolina.
The sisters report Apothecary’s clientele—both in-store and on-line, range in
age from 21 to 81. The shop is bustling on any given day with neighbors, friends,
family and the occasional dog or two.
